A couple months ago I designed a jumpsuit using this same fabric and I just did not love the design. I took it back to my seamstress and changed the entire top half. I definitely like this design much better. The simple silhouette allows the prints and colors to shine.
Growing up my nick name was "Pink Lady" for my insane preference to pink. As I grew up I intentionally avoided anything pink; I felt pink was too girly, no one would take me serious. I actually pretended my favorite color was black just so I could seem "stronger and edgier."
I used to think anything pink and girly made me seem weak, like a damsel in distress. A year ago I when I purchased my bright pink Givenchy Antigona it was my way of proving to myself that I am strong, I am powerful, I am smart, I am edgy AND girly.
Fabulous! That is the first word that came out of my mouth when I first put on this sleeveless blazer. I purchased this pretty number from JVK, a clothing line based in Ghana.
So soon after I got this Voila (by Vlisco) print I found out my mom had the same print - except her seamstress made a dress with it. I decided to go the exact opposite way and design a power suit cape blazer - feminine with a touch of masculinity and bad ass-ness.
Akwiyah is a personal style outlet. When I'm in Ghana I take advantage of the incredible fabrics that are synonymous with our culture. I get the opportunity to share our beautiful fabrics on here to who ever may stumble upon them.
The name Akwiyah (ay-kwee-yah) originates from Ghana - my hometown. In the Ashanti Region in Ghana when a child is born he/she is named after the day he/she was born. I was born on a Wednesday or Akwiydah. The name Akwiyah is derived from Akwiyadah. Contact: abiakua7891@gmail.com
